PAPER PIMP'N FROM OUTER SPACE

#nonprofitindustrialcomplex #grantdependent

A critique on the grant dependent nature of non-profit life. Non-Profits, often without any paid staff, must research grants for hours to find an appropriate funder. Grant applications are often 30 pages long and non-profits must provide a variety of documentation in order to compete for the grant. Non-Profits are not allowed to apply to multiple funders at the same time to support a single program, and generally the time from an application due date to being notified you won the grant takes months. After a non-profit secures the grant, beating out hundreds of others, there must "report out" to the funder (often lots of paperwork) in order to "prove" the success of their program. The system and cycle are slow and inefficient.
